Participation: The event involved 60 direct participants/citizens (researchers incl. volunteers), and more than 1000 respondents from 3 countries - IT, SK, and PL. Most parts of the research were done on-line and for this reason, the participants were not strictly connected with the partner city.


Location / Dates: The event took place in parallel in lÁquila (IT), Banska Bystrica (SK), Cracow (PL), Kielce (PL) from 15/10/2019 to 30/04/2020.


Short description: The aim of the event was preparatory of the background research and preliminary analysis of the literature, research of the citizen's remembrance in the field of European history, footprints of totalitarianism, understanding of European citizenship ideas and common European identity; including educational process as the tool of the citizenship shaping.

Preparatory activities contained research (interviews and surveys – virtual and in-person) in each of the partner countries/institutions.

  • In Italy was done: background research and preliminary analysis of the literature (meta-analysis); Italian case study on citizenship and citizenship education; forms of ad hoc exploration: investigation of citizenship and totalitarianism (138 respondents); interviews with privileged testimonies (18 professionals in different areas of the country); survey on the idea and vocabulary of citizenship (626 respondents); survey on citizenship, European citizenship, and citizenship education (721 respondents). 
  • In Slovakia was done: an analysis of the literature, 160 surveys, and 8 interviews with Slovak citizens.
  • In Poland was done: an analysis of the literature; 132 surveys with Polish citizens, and 20 interviews with school teachers, headmasters, and academic students.

Results: 3 reports and articles/analysis.
